Choices, Excuses, and More Choices (Jeremiah 1: 4-10)
Jeremiah 1: 4-10
God makes interesting choices. Considering the excuses made by those whom God chooses, one might think God makes bad choices. Jeremiah was chosen by God to deliver a word in public to hold people accountable. Jeremiah offers God some typical excuses. He's too young. He's not a good speaker. Does God make bad choices? Or do our excuses reflect our own bad choices? Some key barriers in following the call of God are our own bad choices, and the fear that we have about following the choice God made by choosing any of us. Jesus' life serves as a reminder that though God's choice in us may be daunting, that we need not fear. God in Christ overcomes the greatest barrier we know, which is death.
The documentary film Happy helped in the inspiration for this message. A commendable film.
