A Wine Identity (John 2: 1-12, Sermon Audio)

John 2: 1-12

For the ancient world, wine was attached to divinity. For Jesus' first public appearance, to turn water into wine was a sign who Jesus would be in his life. In the ancient world, wine was also something that bonded a group of people. In sharing and community, wine did not cause the bond of friendship, but represented the sacred nature of relationships. For Christians who practice sharing the Lord's Supper, the Cup provides an identity for God's people; in Christ's death and resurrection, we can trust God's love in Christ for each of us.
